Chapter 29: The Gambling Addicts

John scanned the area to make sure that no one else was around. He wanted to change his appearance and needed to make sure that he wouldn’t be seen changing into his black and silver overcoat look. As he approached Luke, he saw that he had taken a more casual look, wearing blue jeans, a white shirt, and trainers.

“Guess you got my message.”

“Indeed. Everything’s been taken care of. This is Jake. He’ll be delivering the beast cores to the Rank 7s to help them rank up once their body’s been nourished.”

Jake made a slight nod in John’s direction. While he wanted to do a martial arts salute to properly greet John as the sect master, he figured it was best not to draw attention in case the army was watching.

Taking a holding bag from his Storage Space, John handed it to Jake and a random thought popped into his head.

“I didn’t encounter it personally, but I’ve read about the natural defence phenomenon and how Life Power leaks from your body.”

Both Luke and Jake looked at each other with knitted brows, wondering where John was going with this.

“Well, I just thought, maybe the natural defence phenomenon that cultivators go through isn’t a natural thing at all. While we can’t do anything about it, I think the Life Power that leaks out because of it could be caused by the shortcut method we’ve all been using.

“Once your life branches are corrected and the body is nourished, even if you’re still at Rank 7, the Life Power might stop leaking out and is absorbed by your body instead. If it does get absorbed by your body, then surely there’s a way to make it go from the body and back into the neurons to advance to Rank 8 sooner. I was already at Rank 8 when I corrected my branches, so I have no idea if this theory is possible.”

John could see both Luke and Jake had arched eyebrows in shock.

Luke looked back at his fellow sect member before speaking again.

“Ask everybody who’s Rank 7 to record the process after their body is nourished to see if it’s true. If it is, the cultivators outside this battlefield got more than we thought when the Sword Sect spread the proper cultivation method out.”

Jake nodded and tossed the bag over his shoulder before leaving to distribute the cores.

“You’re able to use Life Power now, right? Your gift should have already nourished your body,” John said, turning towards Luke.

Luke stood there a bit confused for a moment before he remembered that John had started calling the systems “gifts” when he talked about them in public.

“Yes and no,” Luke explained. “After all the branches died, it generated new branches properly on its own, however, it didn’t nourish my body afterwards. Because I had Life Power left over from one of my sacrifices, I used that to nourish my body instantly.”
